Statistics on Medical Malpractice
The statistics on medical malpractice aren’t exactly going down. In fact, throughout the last decade, the malpractice statistics have drastically climbed. Today, due to those malpractice statistics, there are thousands of individuals who are afraid to put their life in the doctor’s hands because they do not know if they can rust them or not. About a half of one percent of the nation’s doctors has gone through medical malpractice every year. There have been 2,697 total serious medical malpractice cases all during the year 1999.

Scientists that work at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences have researched and came up with an estimate that ninety eight thousand patients might be killed throughout the year in hospitals alone all because of medical errors that could have been avoided. Studies that were done earlier have shown that this is a serious problem that the nation is going through and it needs to be stopped. Research has shown during the year 1988, there were 234,000 injuries that resulted in 80,000 deaths from medical negligence in the hospitals throughout America. Today, it seems that the medical malpractice injuries are not ending one bit. There are individuals trying to figure out what they can do in order to stop the medical malpractice claims from even happening. There was an interview with fifty three different family physicians, in which forty seven percent of the doctors remembered a case where the patient had died because of an error that was done by the physician. Four out of the total amount reported errors that let to malpractice lawsuits and none of those errors resulted in an action by peer review.
